Animals that join during the journey
Vixen
Fox finds Vixen half-way through the journey when he gets lost, when the rabbits panic and he gets carried off down a river after being hit by debris. Vixen helps Fox to find his friends again and then joins the Farthing Wood travellers as Fox's mate. Soon after arriving at White Deer Park, Fox and Vixen have four cubs, of which two survive into adulthood.
Whistler (Heron)
Whistler, the heron, joins the animals a little bit after half-way through the journey, when they stop off at a quarry. He is intrigued by the animals and decides to join them, as he finds the quarry a little lonely (no other herons). He is helpful to the animals a lot during the last part of the journey, his big beak coming in very handy for helping the smaller animals, such as when they come to crossing the motorway.
